Carroll Area Development Corporation Celebrates Small Business Week
The Carroll Area Development Corporation (CADC) will be celebrating National Small Business Week April 30 – May 4.
“Nationally, the Small Business Administration sets aside this week to celebrate National Small Business Week across the country. Locally, we wanted to do something to celebrate the small businesses right here in our backyards,” explains Shannon Landauer, Executive Director of the CADC. “We’ve put together some great information about the importance of these small businesses to our communities, and we’ll also be showcasing a different small business every day through social media.”
Starting Monday, April 30, the CADC will highlight a different business every day on the CADC Facebook page with a video from that business. The aim is to highlight several area small businesses and the impact they make on our local economy. The CADC has also compiled some compelling statistics that show the importance of shopping locally. This information will also be distributed throughout National Small Business Week.
“One of the biggest struggles our local businesses face is online competition. We’re very much a digital society and sometimes it’s hard to get people to look past the screens they’re holding. What we’re hoping to do during Small Business Week is remind people that much of what they’re looking for can be found locally. And, when you shop locally, you’re helping to support your friends and neighbors, as well as the communities you belong to and the services you enjoy,” adds Landauer.
“When you look at the statistics and see that, on average, more than half of us either own or work for a small business, and small businesses create two out of every three new jobs each year, you start to realize that small businesses are actually big business for our local communities,” observes Landauer. She goes on to point out that Small Business Week echoes everything the Carroll Chamber’s #ChooseCarroll campaign has been promoting, although the CADC takes a more regional approach.
National Small Business Week has been celebrated every week since 1963, with the President of the United States issuing an official proclamation recognizing the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.
